We are an All-America Selections Display Garden
When you visit our garden, you aren’t just looking at pretty flowers and healthy vegetables—you’re seeing the “best of the best” in North American horticulture. As an official All-America Selections (AAS) Display Garden, we are part of an elite network of nearly 200 gardens dedicated to showcasing the gold standard of plant performance.
What is All-America Selections (AAS)?
Founded in 1932, AAS is the oldest and most respected independent testing organization for flowers and edibles in North America. Their mission is simple but rigorous: to test new varieties and identify the winners that will truly thrive in home gardens.
How a Plant Becomes an AAS Winner
Before a plant earns the AAS logo of distinction, it has to prove itself.
- Anonymous Trialing: New varieties are grown side-by-side with current market leaders in trial grounds across the continent.
- Expert Judging: Volunteer horticulture professionals evaluate the plants anonymously over a full growing season.
- Superior Performance: Only those that show significant improvements—such as better disease resistance, earlier harvests, or more vibrant blooms—are designated as AAS Winners.
Why Visit a Display Garden?
AAS Display Gardens provide a “living showroom” where you can see the newest award winners in a real-world, well-maintained setting. Whether we are a public arboretum, a university garden, or a retail center, our goal is to inspire your next planting project.
When you visit us, you can:
- Preview the Newest Varieties: See the latest winners before they hit the mass market.
- Observe Real-World Growth: See exactly how these plants look and perform at their peak.
- Get Professional Advice: Participate in our educational programs, “open house” days, or field events to learn more about the trialing and award process.
A Legacy of Excellence
We are proud to be part of a tradition that dates back nearly a century. From the first winners announced in 1933 to the newest innovations of today, AAS has been the gardener’s most trusted guide. Today, we stand alongside iconic locations—some of which have served as display gardens since 1962—to bring the future of gardening to your backyard.
