The Songs of Trees: Stories from Nature’s Great Connectors

In this new book, David George Haskell distinguishes trees by their sounds, especially when it rains. Trees make different sounds depending on their leaves’ shapes and sizes. Every species has its own song. Haskell says he has trained his ears to identify these trees based on such sounds. He describes the process of listening to trees’ songs as a meditation. He suggests “the fundamental nature of life may be not atomistic, but relational.”
