On February 12, 2013, Mississippi State University Extension Service conducted a grapevine pruning workshop. The primary focus was muscadine vines, but bunch grape pruning was also discussed. The weather that day was rainy and cool, but we were able to get out in the vineyard between showers. Many of the attendees had vines that they wanted to prune but just did not have a solid idea of how to go about it. The discussion was wide-ranging and insightful. These type of workshops are fun for both the presenters and the attendees. We will definitely have more in the future. Thanks to Dr. Christine Coker for hosting us at the MSU Beaumont Horticultural Unit station.
Thanks to Dr. Stephen Stringer, Research Geneticist with USDA-ARS in Poplarville, MS; Mike and Thomas at the Beaumont Station; and Scott Langlois for taking the photos. We did have a handout with information related to the workshop. You can download it here in pdf format: Grape Pruning Workshop Handout 2013
Hope to see you next year!
